It's gettin' late and the wife is watchin' a show I don't like, so I thought it was a good time to ask a couple of questions.

1.) I'm looking for a pull-behind type of snow blower--the older style that has been shown on this board before. They were made for non-live hydraulic tractors like our beloved N's, and kinda remind me of a bush hog for snow. If anyone has a lead on one (I really don't care about the condition--I can rebuild it), please e-mail me.

2) Has anyone thought about adding a secondary hydraulic system using a power steering pump attached to the existing fan belt? A friend at work gave me an old pump (that works) off a Nissan. I thought it'd be handy for things like a front blade.

Well, that's it. Y'all have good Thanksgivings!

Ron

There is a hydraulic take off port with a plug in it on the under belly of the 8N, near the center of the right foot rest, on the lower side, set on an angle. This is a take off after the hydraulic pump, along the port going to the internal cylinder of the 8N. You can run some auxilary equipment with it. You return the discharge fluid back into the top of the tranny case. Some make a hole for a return line in the top plug behind the shifter. You could also use the dip stick hole. However on another note. You still must let up on the clutch each time you want to run the hydraulics. I considered this myself when I wanted to add a snow plow. My dad used this former method, but it was an inconvenience. I also had a power stearing pump and was going to add it to the front of the motor. I priced the parts, the cylinders, hoses, and misc. and decided I would be better served by just buying a used snow plow and remanufacture it to fit my 8N. I lucked upon a myers 6 foor jeep plow for $75.00 that lacked the pump and was pretty worn and rusty, but hey, it was $75.00. I set to work on it and was going to use the power stearing unit. Then I thought, heck, it is already set up for an electrolift unit. I began asking arround and found one from a wrecked truck for $100.00. I got it. After I remanufactured the mounting and designed some additions she fit fine. Since I had converted her to 12 volts a few years back, it was a cinch wireing her up. Now everything works fine and I just got her all painted up like new. Can't wait for the first big snow now!

i welded another pulley to the water pump pulley and use it to drive a power steering pump for a retrofit ps system. It works fine so far, but only 50hrs on it. Remains to be seen how long the wp shaft / bearings can take the load. Could be ok quite a while. Hoping anyway. Good Luck.

Ron:
There is a rear mount snow blower in the photo ad for sale that the seller states he uses behind his 9N. Located about 40 to 50 miles West of LaCrosse WI.

Regarding the power steering unit, saw one done on a Farmall A that way, appeared to work well and looked real good.

Take care, Jim
