Well, yesterday, my dad and I fired up the compressor to go air up my rear tire. Take off the valve cap, and there's no core in the valve! No wonder it wouldnt hold air for more than a day or so. So, today, we take the tire off and head to Co-op, with the horror stories about mounting tires yourself in my head. We got there, bought the tube, and decided that we could save the 20 bucks by doing it ourself. So, we get home, only to find that we had only one tire iron. A quick trip to the shed got two pry bars (or crow bars, depending on where you live.) Ok, now what do we use as a bead breaker? Yep, that Ford F250 did quite nicely. Drive up on the tire, break the bead, change the tube. No problems. We re- mount tire one, and decide to check the air pressure in rear tire two. Remove valve cap, press on tire guage, hmmm, why does it say no pressure? It's holding the tractor up...pull off the guage and out comes water. So, we remove tire two, and drain it. After about 15 minutes with the truck, we decide that we'll break the tire before the bead around the rim. Back to co-op we go, intending to have them mount the tire for us. Well, we got there, picked up the tube, and asked about having it installed. After explaining the problem, they broke the bead for us, free. So, tommorrow will be spent installing the tube and figuring out what radiator part I busted, hose or radiator.

Now, a couple of people have asked questions about me. I guess I'm the youngest guy here, being 14 and homeschooled. I found my tractor locally, via this site. I posted in the classifieds that I wanted a Ford 8N in the West Tennessee area, didnt have to run, for under 1000. Guy emailed me, we went, looked at the tractor, and bought it.

Rambling,

68 Mag

Hey Mag.

Sounds like we have something in common.
My dad bought our 8N when I was ten. I am now 50. I have been with 8N's all my life. I am so proud of you for finding and buying an 8N at 14 years old. Let me know if you need anything.

68 Mag,are you sure that was just water that came out of the tire? Most of the fluid filled tires has calcium in them. Just a word of advice don`t ever get that stuff on anything leather like gloves or boots cause you won`t be able to put them on the next day. It will shrink them till they are about 2 sizes too small. Have a great Thanksgiving and keep on tractoring! Terry

Well, we just got the second ire apart, and guess what. My rim is rusted. I'm pretty sure they did have calcium chloride in there now...So, I guess I need to search for a new one...and that means another trip to the 'tractor guy'...:) Now, the Sherman, I think it is a step up model. My name...Back when I chose it, I was really into paintball and had a marker called a '68 Automag Classic'. With a little creativity, I got 68 Mag, and its just kinda stuck with me.

Now, I couldnt post without asking a question, so would it hurt to run my tractor for about a half hour without the air cleaner? I really want to bring it in from where it's sitting, but I want to run it as little as possible, and towing it isnt an option.

You might get away with it, but why tempt fate? I am in temporary possession of an NAA that has had its original aircleaner removed and replaced with one of those small chrome paper element cleaners (ala Cal Custom) that you find in auto parts stores. The original pipe to the carb has been replaced with a short piec of pipe and the air cleaner and element is clamped on the end of that. That would be better than no air cleaner at all.
