Anyone know of a link to a good picture of the oil filter on an 8N? I'm changing the oil on it for the first time (...picking up the manual next week). The fram filter (C3) I picked up doesn't seem to look like the the one on it currently. The hole in the middle is much bigger on the filter on it now. It looks like it needs to be, to accommodate the tube through the middle of it. I want to make sure this is it before I pull it out. Is this a twist on or should it pull right out? I doesn't want to come out very easily.

OK, OK, I found it. Guess that was some kind of air filter. There was lots and lots of sludge on the bottom of the canister cover. Are you supposed to fill that cover with oil up to "oil line?" The wire mesh that was in there was really dirty for the first couple of inches. I cleaned it all out and put it back together.

Yes, fill it to the oil line with whatever is in the crank case. If you aren't "wrenchy" enough to sort out filters run, don't walk to the nearest vendor and get an F O 4 manual. You will save the price in the first major repair.

Your mileage may vary

What is the purpose of the oil in the canister cover?
