I just bought a great old 2n and am having trouble making the brakes work! when i take off the rear tire and adjust them ...they work fine...but when i put the wheel back on and try to stop...its like there is no brake at all...the pedal is tight but it takes a whole bunch of pressure to even slow it down...could the brakes be crystalized and if so how do i fix it????? ?
THANKS FOR ANY HELP OR Thoughts!!!

Ron, like Pete said, you probably are saturated with oil. you have a little grunt work ahead of you. My drums and everything inside were also saturated with oil. Cleaned up nicely though.third party image Might want to install neww pads at this time. Hope this helps. Alan Esch

Ron, are the axle seals visibly leaking? With most tractors I would say that your pads are simply glazed and need to be roughed up, but with an N, they are probably saturated with oil. Pete

While I agree that the pads are probably oiled up, unless you know that the pads are fairly new, like the last 10 years, don't fool with them, like sanding or burning off the oil. The older pads were made with asbestos. My $.02
