I have a rear main seal that has been leaking on my 53 naa so I finnaly replaced it. The original was rope like an n tractor and I replaced it with the rubber type so I would not have to split the tractor it was really tough to remove the upper rope seal but I did finnaly get it out .I put the new one in and it still leaks not as bad but none the less.... I dont think I damaged the upper one putting it in but.... any ways any commments from you guys would be great I know its not an 8 or 9 N but I felt I had to come to the best on this one. Thanks

Ross, It might not be the main seal. Remember, you have the two vertical seals that should be dipped in oil immediately prior to installation. You also have the possibility of the rear main cap leaking where it mates up in the block. All these would be hard to determine correct installation with the engine in the tractor. Remember, too, you have the cam shaft cover that could develop a leak and it would leak into the front side of the flywheel and appear to be a main leak.
