I got a 12v light for my 8n which has been converted to 12v. The light was in a friends garage and he gave it to me fot a beer...no it's not from Dave#1

The light is a basic enclosed auto/truck utility light with an adjustable mounting. 2 wire, one for ground to the frame and one for current.

Question 1) should I put an in-line fuse between the light and the battery and what size fuse should I use.

Question 2)what gauge/type of wire can I use? Is solid #14 ok...cause I got a lot of that.

Question 3)I plan on installing the light on the rear mount that is already there, grounding it to the mount/fender, wire it to a toggle switch there, run wire to under the hood, hook up an in-line fuse then connect to power...sound ok?

Thanks!

-Sal

Sal..... .sound like you've got half a plan. Never use "solid" wire in a vibrating environment, metal fatigue ya know. That means always use stranded #14 on your tractor. I'd use a 5 amp 3AG fuse. I don't like using tractor fenders as a ground because they have rusty joints between everything. I'd use a seperate ground return wire, makes for brighter, steadier lights on old machinery..... ..Dell

Dell

On the 5 amp 3AG fuse...what does the 3AG represent?

On the ground, are you saying to run it back to the negative under the hood?

Any specs I should get in a toggle switch?

Thanks

Sal

Sal..... .3AG is physical size, 1/4 X 1 1/4 glass tube. Most popular size, there rated 32 volts X how many amps ya wants. Even the cheepest toggle switch is good for 5 amps but they donna like rain, get a weatherproof switch. And yeah, run your light ground return to somewhere convient near the battery ground..... ..Dell
