I was thinking...did the famed 'Ford tools' come with the tractors new? Because, if the oringinal literature can stay with a tractor 50 years, why are these tool so had to find?

Wasting forum space,

I know I didn't always put my dad's tools back where I found them. I'm a little more careful when I'm paying for them,,,but now it is my kids' turn. Never ending cycle. Bob

Everything I've seen says they came with the tractor when new. My 8N didn't even have the toolbox when I bought it, let alone any of the tools. Since last April, I've found a toolbox with all the paint burned off from a fire (sandblasted/primed/painted, looks good!), and by haunting the local "antique malls" (an oxymoron?), I've collected every tool except for the plow wrench and the screwdriver. Could get 'em on e-bay, but somehow it's more fun to shop around. Funny, I've never seen any old liturature or manuals in these places. Wonder why.....

The only way to learn is by asking questions, with your age you have a lot of that to do yet, learn all you can.

I would speculate because tools have other uses. They tend to grow legs and wander astray, whereas literature, for the most part, tends to stay on a shelf or in a file drawer. I imagine there are quite a few original tools rusting in fields across the country where they have fallen off plows and been bounced out of tool boxes, etc. I found a huge old crescent wrench while plowing one day. I cleaned it up, and although it was badly pitted, it was still usable.
