I'm working on a 8n i think the ORC is busted it spins both ways i assume my buddy ran in to a stump and sheared it. would that knock out the hydralic pump? are there any other sacrifical pin further in the pto that might have broken or is it just more likely that he broke 2 things at once? the pto kept popping out of gear just before it finally died..... ..well im not sure its dead i think i can hear it turning inside the ORC anyway . i would love a hint at what i'm looking for

Hi Rob,

Did you pull the ORC off of the PTO shaft yet? If not I would start there. I am not sure from your post but you also said the hydraulic system isn't working? If that is the case then it sounds like the PTO shaft may have snapped before it goes through the pump?

If you don't have a manual it sounds like the time to get one. The PTO shaft is very easy to remove. Also the ORC is held onto the PTO with a roll pin that needs to be lined up with the two holes in the outer sleeve and driven out with a punch. That should only take a few seconds. To pull the whole shaft from the tractor, drain the oil, remove 4 bolts, and pull it out. If only 1/2 of it comes out then you know what the trouble is.

Hope that helps,
Ken

Rob..... what Ken said..... If'n you park your N-Nose down innna ditch, you donna hafta drain the oil to pull the PTO Shaft. Sounds like you've got a great "friend". My guess, yer gonna hafta pull both the ORC and trashit, new ones $60 cheep. And pull the PTO shaft if'n you can. If'n you can't, some have used a sawzall to cut it out, sometimes ya get desperate..... ..Dell

Good words on the ditch job. I thought of that but never having done it didn't know if it would be enough to keep her from leaking.

Now if it is the PTO shaft and hasn't been done yet, would you suggest an upgrade to the 1 3/8"? That is if the ORC will be replaced too.

Thanks,
Ken
