I recently started work on an 8N that has been sitting for several years. I finally got the starter motor to spin, but the drive will not engage the ring gear. Anyone know of any tricks to loosen it up without splitting the tractor in two? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Pull out assembly, buy new starter drive (35-55 bucks, install assembly with new drive. Hook up wire and off you go. My experience is once you have problems with the starter drive it is best to throw it out.

Remove the starter and try to work the drive free. Do not use any lubricant on the shaft and drive gear. Happy Motoring
