Ok, here's the deal. I have considered building one, but ran into several roadblocks. I'm not giving up on it, mind you, just checking out my other options. I need a front mount dozer blade for a 1948 8N. It has to be heavy enough to do light road work, and knock over/ spread 5 foot high piles of sand or gravel. It needs to have a stong enough blade to be used to push over dead trees. now, before everyone goes to tell me that my N isnt a dozer, let me say that I am very well aware of what my tractors limitations and capabilities are, and it is my butt on the seat in the event of an accident. I've heard a little bit about AARPS blades, but all people talk about using them on is snow, so I'd assume that they're fairly 'light duty' blades. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks,

68 Mag

68mag,
I know where there is a ARPS dozer blade..the only thing missing is the guides that fit on the front axle. I could give you the dementions of those..I would have to draw them up..Did it for someone last spring. I have the snowblade setup. They use the same guides. Send me your e-mail address as i cant get it to come up when I click on it...

Problem with a front mounted anything on the N is the configuration of the front axle. The King Pin has been known to break under extreme load, such as a loader or axle mounted blade.

I don't know that the N will be able to push over a tree, but I have run over and bush hogged quite a few with my 2N. As far as pushing sand, the three point hitch offers a lot of possibilities. I use a 5' grader blade for snow and to redo the driveway now and then. I understand that for moving and final grading material, a box blade can do even more. Plus, the hict has been figured out; no need to jury-rig something.Extended use will give you a sore neck, but you get a lot of muscle at the hitch.

The N can do a lot of stuff, but keep in mind that it was the limitations of the N that led to the development of the small utility tractors of today that can do so much more.

I agree with Ed, go with a back blade. They don't cost that much, they're easy to find, and they put the strain where it's supposed to be.

Keep a constant strain, Dave.....
