...And then I woke up. Last night, I had carried my N's dead battery to my neighbors house, which was 3/4 mile away, on our gravel road, because he had offered to charge it for me. This morning, I was walking to get the paper, and his wife stopped me and told me that my battery was charged, whenever I wanted to come get it. Since I had 2 newspapers, the mail, and a dog on a leash, I decided to come back later with out Murray riding mower and cart to get it. Well, later, on the mower with the cart, I set out to get it. I drove up our road, pulled into their driveway, and loaded my battery in the cart. I was just about to crank the mower when I saw the front left tire was flat. Totally and completely flat. No big deal, I'll just air it up. I walked the 3/4 mile home, and got the air compressor. After fighting with the handle and hose for about 15 minutes, I set off, up the road to fix my mower and get my battery.By this time I was mad, because I was walking 3/4 mile, mostly uphill, with a 100 pound gas powered air compressor. Well, I finally made it back to my mower, and cranked up the compressor. The tire had been kind enough to come off the rim, and as it commonly is with tubeless tires, this meant no seal. Now really angry, I set off back home to get a hydraulic jack and tire irons. Thankfully, my mother was leaving for town when I got home and offered to drive me back up there. We got there, and using a 4x4 wood block and a crow bar, I lifted the front of the mower enough to slide the jack under the axle. I then began again with the air compressor and tire irons. After 45 minutes of fighting the tire, it filled and was perfectly fixed. So, I load the air compressor, the wood block, the crowbar, and the battery into my trailer. I then rip the jack out from under the mower and loaded it and came home.

It's been an interesting morning, and it's going to be an even more interesting afternoon as I attampt to replave the exhaust manifold gasket on my 8N. Shouldnt be hard, just gotta take off the carb, generator, and manifold. Yeah, and all I had to do this morning was drive up and get the battery...

Rambling,

A can of Fix A Flat will get you out of trouble some times. Just my 2 cents worth.

When the tubless tire goes flat, it breaks the bead and as you found out the tire will not fill. The only way to cure that is to put tubes into the tires... I did mine on my Craftsman. It cost me about $22.00...Money well spent...

Why not just buy a 6/12 volt battery charger of your own? Sounds to me like it would save you a lot of time and aggravation.

We have one. However, it is locked in the toolbox, and my father has the only key, and he's visiting his parents in South Carolina for a couple of weeks.

Well then..I'd be asking ol' Dad to have an extra key cut for the lock. If you are old enough to be piddling around with a tractor by yourself, then surely you are at an age where you are responsible enough to be counted on for putting tools away when you are finished using them. Plus making sure they are locked up tight..Right?

Right. Usually it's empty and the tools are in the shed, but he was welding on the carport and decided to store them in it because it was closer to the 'work site'.

to receive a quality education by 9 o'clock. You also need more peer social interreaction as evidenced by your many communications on this board wth us old geezers. My 15 year old has more quality hw each day than that and he is very bright. He has no spare time because fo school and FRIENDS.

Dear Impossible,

...course, you dont' know when he started...

Homeschooling, if done right, is just like a personal tutor. Who wouldn't want to have a personal tutor for their kiddo?

Lots of famous and successful people were homeschooled over the centuries, using this definition. It's not for everyone, but it's certainly not experimental, and it has proven its worth and is coming of age (again).

We've just become depended upon this "new" public school concept and feel it's the only way for a quality education.

Socialization? Yeah, there's some value to fighting with the other rats to get your piece of the cheese, but for the value added by home schooling, you can work on that "socialization" need in other, more productive, more mature ways that will prepare kids for the future.

Simply having a busy kid does not mean he's getting a quality education, don't you think?

How many of us were bored silly in class, waiting for the day to end? How much of public school is crowd control?

I think homeschooling is an exciting option for today's kids...AND parents, if they can swing it.

Impossible,

The reason I'm homeschooled is the public shcool system in my area is a 'free daycare', so to speak. At any given time in the school day, three out of 5 classes are minus a teacher. My parents got sick of it, so we started homeschooling.

Now- I would like to ask you to let me go about my life. I do not criticize you over where you work, what you drive, or what college you went to, and I would like to ask you not to criticize myself or my family for the way we have chosen for me to get my education.

Respectfully,

68 Mag
