I realized yesterday when trying to skid a log with the riding mower that I need a drawbar on my 8N. Ok, call TSC. $116.00 for a belly mount drawbar, 40 for a 3 pt. I aint got that kinda money, but I gotta have a drawbar. Off to th scrap pile I go, to come back with a 30 inch long, 2 inch wide, and 1/4 inch thick piece of iron. Measure it, mark it, attack it with the hacksaw and angle grinder. I cut end number 1 fine, but on 2, I had the genious idea to cut 3/4 of the way, then beat it with a hammer. Lets just say it took a lot of grinding to fix that. But now, 3 hours later, I have a drawbar...with no holes in it...stupid cordless drill battery died, and all the other drills are in the gangbox...so I'm waiting on the charger...

Rambling,

Sixtyeight,

Please read the archives about the dangers of skidding logs with the 8N. It is very easy to flip over backwards if the front of the log hangs up or the log catches on anything.
An old tractor man down the road from me. stopped me the first time he seen me do this and explained things to me. He recommended to always have an implement on the back to prevent a flip. I generally use my box blade when I am skidding. I welded a couple of hooks to chain to. If the log stops suddenly your implement will catch you and prevent you from flipping up too far. Also keep the implement low. If you wanted to get real fancy you could build a log skidder... Im sure I have seen examples in the archives.
Be careful and be aware these little Ns will rotate around faster than you can react.

Happy TractorN'

Bill

Thanks for the warning Bill, but I'll just be pulling around small trailers and such. We've decided to use the 8N drawbar and a come along to move logs. Put the N where we want the log to stop, and then hook up to the log and use a come along to pull the log with the N as the anchor point.

The TSC near me (lower Mich) sold me a new drawbar for $19.99 a few months ago.

so you are making a swinging drawbar?

sounds interesting as long as you don't try to skid logs from the top link only.

No, it's just a basic 3 point drawbar. We're going to use a come along to skid logs now.
