I don't have either, but a buddy of mine has 5 ft Ford and does his 3 acres, no problem at all with his 8N. Bigger is not necessarly better, a 5 ft is a nice width to follow behind your tractor and I doubt if a 6 ft would get you done very much sooner. I suggest the 5 ft, relax take little more time on your 8N and enjoy. Stan

Hi SLS AR
I have posted about my 5 ft. Bushog brand finish mower a lot of times now, but I'll give it one more boost.
I like mine a bunch. However, I pull it with a little MF1240 that I bought for my wife (my excuse to get it). I tried it on my 8N and didn't like the power to the ground speed. Some of the 8N folks got offended that I said the power was a little weak. However, the 1240 works great.
Lots of warm weather in Alabama and grass grows thick and tough. After the third or fourth cutting about July or August, I need sharp, sharp blades and plenty of power. One thing I like about Bushog, the quality is there and the gearbox is tough enough. Never had a gearbox failure in 25-30 years of mowers and this explains why Bushog gives a 10 year warranty on it's gearboxs. Just remember, grease the He-- out of anything that moves. Good luck.

You are going to be the best judge of that. The tractor will do either quite well if if is in reasonable shape and the grass has not gotten way out of hand. The big thing that makes people lean one way or the other is the mower sticking out beyond the wheels. If you mow an area where there is a potential of hooking the mower on a post or scraping the bark off of your trees, you may want to go with a 5 footer to be sure that if the wheels get past something the mower will too. If you have mostly wide open area and will get to it often enough, the 6 footer is the way to go. My long vacation in the summer is 3 weeks tops and I tend to stay way away from my wife's trees so I will be going with a 6 footer. Although I have an 850, the finish mower will be my 8N's job, I am not at all worried about it handling the task.

Got a 5 footer- mow about 3 acres of pasture. Don't hardly know it's back there! Doesn't drag the engine down when you take off like the 'hog does.5 foot seems to be just about perfect for my 8n, although I never had a 6 footer.Wonder if 6 foot might be a little much for uh 8n??
Mows 10 times better than the Cub Cadet garden tractor I used to have...fun too.
