So simple it confused me- 2 inch hitch reciever on an 8N

Lately, after reading the archives, I have began wondering how I would put a 2 inch standard hitch reciever (like on a truck) on my 8N. I dont know why I would need it, but I got curious as to how it could be done. And then it hit me. Out on the scrap pile we have an old Class 4 reciever and some 12 inch by 12 inch square steel plates. So, why not just cut the square reciever off the other stuff on the Class 4 hitch and weld that to a steel plate, then bolt the plate to the mounts for a 'belly hitch' swinging drawbar? I have no idea how I would use this, or even need it, but I'm going to try it tommorrow just to

A) Practice welding

B) See if it would work.

Now, could someone tell me how I would use this, or how I would need it?

Thanks,

68 Mag

I applaud you all on your inginuity, however you can purchase the same thing through northern hydrolics if you have trouble welding

I really use mine a lot, also homemade. Having it on the hydrolics is very usefull. You can back up to a heavy trailer with the ball low and lift up the trailer and drive away, never getting out of your seat. Beware of your tongue weight as metioned before.

Hey guys, some great ideas for spotting trailers, etc. Just remember, if you plan to use the hydraulics, the hitch is not stable. Negative tongue weight or a sudden stop will have the hitch reaching for your neck or lower back. If you have got to load the trailer, lock out the hydraulics and install the hitch braces to the top link. Also, too much tongue weight and the tractor front end may rear up when you try to pull.

I have a Ferguson TE20 and a Ford 640, both of them have the swinging drawbar and I made a new drawbar with a 2" receiver weld on so I can use various ball mounts. I can switch the drawbar to which ever tractor I want it on. Works good for me.

Cool. Is that tractor a Farmall with 3pt conversion, or am I just too used to seeing our Super A?
