8N- What are my chances of floating?

Ok, here's the deal. Our 3/4 mile drivway is under about 8 inches of water, and I have been ordered to go and retrieve the newspaper. Now, I cant walk. When I walk, the dogs follow me and attack the neighbor's dogs. So, I have to drive. My vehicle choices are-

A- A Murray riding mower, that doesnt run in any gear except reverse.

B- My 8N.

Now, I know it'll handle the water. My question is, with all the air the the tires, what are my chances of floating/ hydroplaning, in first gear with a low throttle.

The water is not moving at all. It's literally a large lake. There's no wind, and it's still water. What does everyone think?

About to become very, very wet,

68 Mag

Looks like to me what you need here is a little faith.

In case you don't have enough of that (size if a mustard seed) I would suggest you get the wife to walk ahead of the tractor in her bare feet so you will know where it the road is and not drive off in a deep ditch etc.

68, Why take it slow. Put it in 4th gear and grab a fist full of throttle and skip it across the lake! That way you only get wet if you slow down and sink.

Just being safe. Besides, if I crashed/ flipped/ got hospitalized, who would be here to ask dumb questions about hydroplaning something with a top speed of...what is it...14 mph or something like that, I think. (grin).

Once i had a chance to play in mud with about 6 inches of water on top. My 2n's front wheels did not do a good job steering! I found it better to go backwards and use the front wheels as rudders. Have fun.

Take the 8N.

Your chance of floating in 8 inches of water is zero.

You would have to be going over 40MPH to have a chance of hydroplaning, even with a Sherman step up trans I doubt that you could get an 'N to go that fast.

Keep it in first gear and watch out for mud holes. :-)

..... Your dogs will follow you if your on foot but won't follow you if your on your 8n going "Walking" speed???? And your parents (Who must be the ones that gave the order to get the paper) will now wait X amount of time while you wait for repies to this very important question ??? I'll have to give this problem some serious thought and get back to ya !

The dogs are horrified of vehicles, or anything else with an engine. And I alread went for the paper, on the tractor. I took the lawnmower too, chained to the drawbar, 'just in case'. I got nice and stuck on the way back, too. Lawnmower bogged down, sank up to the axles, and almost killed the tractor trying to pull it out. But, it might have helped if I had put the mower in neutral...

Go slow, first gear at just above idle and you won't even get wet.

No chance in heck it will float or plane...
