MY 8n will not lift the rear scraper blade off the ground. It will lift itself up with no weight on it. Where do I start? Thanks Pat

Pat..... .what AL said..... .Remember, your 3-point hydraulic lift is power up and gravity down, so you can actually lift it by armstrong (as long as you don't have an implement on 'em)

In the meantime, heres what I'd do. The the 6" round hydraulic dipstick off and shine a flashlight up in there while you're hydraulics are running and tryin to lift your implement. You'll see some hydraulic oil squirtin' from somewheres and you will then have a pretty good idea what yer problems are.

Mostlikely, leaky hydraulic lift piston. Tip: replace it with the rubber "O" ring type piston from NAA instead of the 3 steel rings piston.

Get yer I&T FO-4 repair manual out ($29 cheep) and readitt. Parts are readily available..... .Dell

Hi Pat,
I agree that the archives have just about anything you want to know. However, your problem sounds so similar to the one I had that I'll repeat mine. I hadn't discovered the archives when my 8N lift stopped working.
My lift would not pick up at all. When I raised it by hand with the tractor running, it would stay up, but when I let it down, it would not raise again by itself. I won't go into details of all the misery I went through, but after about 3 weeks of work and going into the housing twice, I just happened to look under the lift plate and move the lift lever. Nothing. The problem was the adjustment located under the lid.(cover on top of the housing that the tractor seat is mounted to). I just tightened the adjustment a little until I could see the long inside lever (rod) move when I raised and lowered the outside lever. Check the easy things (adjustments) first. Good luck.

Pat,
I would head to the archives section of this board and search for post's by a gentleman named Zane on the subject of hydraulics. He has posted a sort of troubleshooting operation that you can use to get your lift workin' like it should.
Merry Xmas.
