I about ready to build a dirt scoop. I've checked out all the pics I can find and have come up with a sound design minus a few details that I was hoping you all might help me with. First how big is the pivot pin on the scoop sides? Next, does someone have a sketch/pic or description of the latch mechanism, though I could come up with a latch of my own design I would like to have something tried and true. And last how thick is the steel on the bottom of the pan, not the cutting edge but the pan bottom itself. On another subject I ran across a grey paint that has that greenish quality the is like the old ford color on my 8N. It is called dark machinery gray, made by a company called Aerovoe in Nevada. Don't know if it is on the hardware store shelves or not, as my company uses it as an industrial coating. Thanks, Andy-8N-AZ

I made a sketch of the one on my no name scoop from Tractor Supply. Unfortunately neither the sketch nor the scan of it is very good, but it may give you an idea.

I have used a KingKutter for 3 years. I think I paid less that $200. I know it was less than $300. It works like a champ. The catch and release leaves something to be desired. However, it is one of the most used implements I have on the seven acres I "farm". Good luck what ever way you go.

Andy..... ..the round ball cat-1 lower link pin sockets are 7/8". Have you considered looking at a new dirt scoop at your local tractor dealer to get an eyeball answer to all your questions?

I got my new dirt scoop at annual tractor auction for $150. Would be kinda hard to build one for that price. Of course, there is always the braggin' rights for buildin' it yerselfs..... ..Dell

No dealer in Az that I have talked to has one. They all want to order me one for about five bills, so you can see my desire to build one. The cat one pins are sure a good guidline though, thanks. Andy

When I was young and in my prime and living in the 4 Corners area, the NoGo Run was a trip across the border to Nogales, Mexico. Ya could get all KINDS of things inexpensively. Gallon of duty free Tequila was $5. Custom hand made Double Eagle cowboy boots were $20, man did they fit good. And the little boys were always hustlin' ya to shine your shoes as you walked down the dusty streets, galkin'..... ....Dell
