Well I have been waiting for the right moment to buy my own 8N for the right price. I have found an 8N close by (no trucking)but the 3-pt doesn't work. The engine has recently been rebuilt and the rest looks good. I am wondering how serious of a problem can the 3-pt be to fix. Granted, I don't know whats wrong but I thought one of you 8N guru's could take an edcucated guess. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Make sure you have the pto engaged. It won't lift without the pto turning. This may be too easy but it's wotrh a try. Good luck.

Andy, what is it not doing? Does it do anything? I got into mine last year. They are not real bad. There are some adjustments you can make in there (in hydraulic casing under the seat) to your linkages. They sometimes get corroded and stick. There is also a ram (piston and cylinder) that does the lifting. Rings can go bad or the piston can get a hole wore in it from the push rod. There is a hydraulic pump in the bottom. Could need rebuilt or have a relief valve of some sort stuck open. I did not get into my pump. Rebuild kits are around $100 I think for the pump stuff. Just a thought - you can disengage the hydraulics with the lever down on the left side of the tractor casing under the seat. If it is disengaged, 3 pt AND your PTO will not work. See if the PTO is spinning. Would be nice if it simply needs put in gear.

The 3-pt. does nothing. The lever for the pto and 3-pt is engaged. I haven't bought this tractor yet. The determining factor will be how difficult and expensive it is to fix. Thanks,
Andy
