Well it wasn't charging at all, it just quit charging one day last summer, but with a hot battery, I could do all the work I needed to get done. Now I went and spent the bucks, getting ready for some snow, put a new generator (6V), and voltage regulator, starts and runs fine, just keeps charging about 15amp at idle, 30 amp reved, hooked everything back up the way it came off. Did notice that the generator was hot to the touch, and the amp gage was real hot to the touch. Let it run for about 20 minutes and it didn't show any signs of decreasing. So I shut it down, and came in to ask you guys. Any Ideas?

Ron , from the history --from no charge to over charge -- it looks like points in the reg are burned and now welded together .Get a small point file ang give that a go . Maybe the armatures on the relays are stuck .

Hi Ron, Sounds like the regulator is sticking, Are you sure you have the right combination of generator and regulator? The originals only put out 10 to 12 amps. Thake both to a electrical repair shop and have them check them out.

These generators will put out 30 amps with no problems although they are not rated for it and may overheat after a while. The current limiting factor in these generators are the current limiting relays in the voltage regulators.
For troubleshooting, see the site below.

What do you mean by a hot battery? If you have been overcharging it you may have cooked it.

No, by a "hot" battery, I mean I put in on the charger for a while, and make sure it is fully charged. Stick it in the tractor, and it will run for all day before I needed to charge it that night. Thats when it wasn't charging at all.
going for the troublshooting section claus pointed out for me
Thanks
