8n fouling plugs

Purchased a '52 8n last spring. It had a leaking head gasket, and lots of anti-freeze in the oil. Fixed that problem, however, the tractor fouls the plugs after running only a short time. (Black oily gunk on the plugs.) It does blow out some blue-black smoke, but, after 2 hours of steady mowing the oil level was only slightly down. My other 8n smokes more than this one and has yet to foul a plug. I think it is time for an overhaul. Any other ideas?

Be sure that you have a good strong spark. Replace the coil, points and condenser and the plugs. Use AC or something other than the orginal make plugs which I will not name here but you should know what I mean.

You can also buy plug extenders or antifoulers that go in the spark plug hole and the plug then threads into these. They work!
They will make the idle a little off though.

Rick..... ..ya ken by a lotta new sparkies for price of unneeded overhaul. Sofar ya ain't given any empiracal proof you need an overhaul other than "fouls sparkplugs".

My advice, use a "hotter range" sparkplug to burn off the oil fouling.

Whats your compression readings? Dry then wet, write 'em down and tell us. How does it start? Does it have enuff power to do the jobs you need done like brushoggin', plowing?

'course, if'n ya gotts a buckett full of money and more timne 'an ya gotts sense, or want to overhaul your 8N as an intellectual exercise, then overhaul away..... ....respectfully, Dell

The tractor has plenty of power and it starts right off. Have already replaced the plugs, points, and condenser, but not the coil. Will check into the compression readings. Thanks. Rick
