While changing the oil yesterday, I noticed that the drain plug doesn’t have the filter screen attached. Upon further inspection I noticed that the round part of the oil pump pick up is about ½ inch to the rear of the drain hole (not centered with the drain hole). Therefore, you can’t put the filter screen up into the pick up. Should I be concerned about this? My oil pressure is steady at 30lbs, and I haven’t noticed any problems. Also, is there any other way of aligning the pick up tube with the hole short of splitting the tractor? Thanks in advance.

Take a look at figure FO 24 in the I T manual. If that tube isn't supported at the drain plug end it is going to vibrate and eventually open up a seam and then start to suck air. A drain plug with the screen is only important if replacing the lower end of the engine would be an inconvenience.

Your mileage may vary.
