Robert: If you have soils that are called "sticky" or high in clay, the slat b ottom will work fine. In fact it will work in many conditions. They were common in the Midwest in the middle of the 20th century even in areas with clay loam soils because the guys were running late into the fall and early in the spring as they moldboard plowed too wet soils. Such a Ford plow will also be collectible someday. Its the only kind dad had on an all-tillable Iowa farm we owned before we moved to our Missouri cattle farm. There were a few Slat plows there too, some sold new into the 60s. M

I have used a pull type 3 bottom slatted moldboard plow in the past. They are only for plowing sod. It works to lessen the "drag", making it pull easier as it turns the sod over, while the roots hold the soil together. It don't work well for broken ground, as there is nothing holding the soil together, and therefore it don't turn it over properly. One other point, they don't work well in rocky ground either, as the slats break easily. That is what destroyed mine back in the 60's
