Ok, I got the plug out of the block, and drained as much water as I could. I went to open the front grill, to pull the radiator plug. At some time, they broke the grill and simply welded it on. So, I couldnt get the grill open to drain the radiator. However, a lot of water came out of the block, so I hope it should be fine for tonight, so I can fix my grill tommorrow. How would the front grill on a '48 8N attach? I know it has 2 pivots on the bottom and 2 latches at the top, but how do I know what they should look like?

Thanks,

68 Mag

The lower pivots are bolts that go into the side wings of the hood. You probably can get to them from the bottom by laying under the front of the grill. Can't remember if there is enough space to get a wrench on them from that angle. I've always been able to get the top latches to release so the grill will hinge down.

The latches are at the top and stick thru the last two rods on each side. They can be very hard to push down to get them to release. When you get the grill open/off you can see how they are susposed to work.

Good luck!

On my 51 8N there is a drain petcock on the rear left of the radiator, near the bottom hose connection. This and the petcock on the block has usualy been enough to prevent freezing. However, don't forget that you could remove the radiator hose, which helps drain the block and the radiator.
