I need to paint my 8N. The hood and fenders are rusty. I have a gravity sandblaster, but would prefer not to use it. Not very effective and dust/grit is a problem. I have a 5K pressure washer. Doesn't do much with rust. I am willing to rent (if I can find one they will rent) a slurry pressure washer. That's one that mixes sand with the high pressure water. Now to the topic. I received a flyer from Kano. I have used silikroil for 30+ years so I have faith in their products. They advertise two products that sound good. 1. Floway- degreaser. Blurb states: cleaning greasy equipment: tractores. Cuts through heavy coats of dirt..Dirt floats away with water. Leaves non-rusting surface. Engines can be started at one. (MY commment- does this mean it leaves some time of coating that would impede paint adhesion. Would simple green or similar heavy duty degreaser work as well? Maybe Dell's or Zane lye formula?) 2. Exrust. Blurb states:
Dissolves rust fast - easy to use. Concentrated Exrust chemically dissolves rust, cuts through grease. Thoroughly cleans metal surfaces. Simply soak rusted part -or apply to rusted surface - rust disappears. After treatment any type finish can be applied. Available in 16 oz. 1, 5, 15, and 55 gallon containers. (this product seems too good to be true- hence my question here)
