I have a 2n and find that the rear blade moves slow in cold weather. I am considering using a synthic oil to help this. Is this a good idea and how much does the gear box hold ?

I strongly urge you to stick with either the original 80/90 or preferably the 134 spec. Someone a few days ago said that NAPA had it pretty cheap. Considering even FNH price of 40 bucks a 5 gal. bucket it's well worth it (it lasts for years).

It holds 5 gallons. The tranny, hydraulics, and differential are all in there together. The book says 80 weight mineral oil in colder weather but a hydraulic fluid that meets the ford 134 spec is widely used. It costs me 50% more than a "Premium Universal Hydraulic Fluid." It's sold as a "high quality oil for use in older Ford tractors." Can you put 5 gallons of a synthetic oil in there for anywhere near the $30 you might pay for the 134?
