Looking at another 8N

My dad and I are going out this weekend to look at a 52 8N for sale. The guy says it has been outside since the 80's and that it is all there. No, it is not running. He is asking $600.

Dad and I thought we would take a look at it depending on it's condition we might negotiate a bit, if nothing else it might be a good parts tractor.

Well, my wife heard me talking to my dad on the phone about this. When I hung up she went nuts on me!

...how much is this going to cost, what do you need another one for, you'll spend even more time with those tractors...

It was horrible...I didn't see what the big deal was since my dad was looking to buy it.

I love her, but I want another tractor. 2 8N's aren't enough.

I guess I need to be careful now or she will shoot me...I think I will take her out to dinner soon.

Theres nothing wrong with having other things (toys) in your marriage, unless it causes problems in your marriage. Being a good husband is understanding how to manage your toys. Your wife and family should always come before a (toy).
Look at it from her point of view. She said your going to be spending (more) time than before, with your tractors. Are you in this marriage just for another mother? Or a wife? You may need to look in the mirror and have a talk, IF you value your marriage. Sorry, I like this board, and to learn from it on tractor repairs. But you posted this at the beginning, and left yourself wide open. I have been married for a long time, and I respect my wife, and we do everything together, and I do love my 8N, but its just a Tractor.
Good Luck.
Brent

Brent, you are correct and my family does come first. I was posting for fun and grins. My wife and children come first as they should. I do not put my toys first. She is happy that I like the N's and that it is something for my son, my dad and I share with each other. But she is the first to admit that she doesn't understand it at all. She and my daughter do many things together and my son and I do the 8N's together. She has different activities with our son, just as I have different activities with my daughter. Like I said earler this post is for the humor value and not about a lack of what's important in the big picture. My family comes first and always will. My wife loves that I am with my 8N's and not at bars or out chasing women. She has her things just like I do and we both raz the other and it is all in good nature.

I've had my '47 8N for a few years and have always kept an eye open for another one. I found one in October, a '51, and bought it on a Saturday, unloaded it by the machine shed. I still had the trailer hooked on to my truck when I went in the house and my wife was on the phone with her sister. She told me her new brother-in-law was thinking about selling his '50 w/loader and maybe we should go look at it! Bought two 8N's in one day with my wife's help. She's a keeper! Pete

The mirror isn't that important besides it doesn't really look that bad with the electrical tape on it.

LOL

...I am glad she hasn't brought that argument up...yet.

I thought you would be on my side...Might be a set of tires in it for ya.

I just bought my 10th 8N about 4 months ago at an auction. After about the third or fourth one, my wife doesn't say much about them anymore. As a matter of fact, she was telling her mother about them and she swore up and down I had 11. Had to stop and think a moment...nope, only 10.

Hey sal, I understand, My father GAVE me a running 50'8n he picked up from an estate sale cheap. I am restoring it and she freaks out a little about me spending money on it, time working on it, time on internet talking about it, and thumbing through parts catalogs dreaming about it. She even calls it a pile of junk.I guess she'll never understand. Maybe when I finish it, she might come a little closer to understanding anyway.

Save yourself a lot of headaches. Tell me where it is and I will make sure that you never see it again . Honestly, you should mention that if worse comes to worse you could part it out and make a tidy profit on the deal (secretly knowing that parting it out is the LAST thing you would ever do with it!).

Good Luck

I would never part out a tractor, I would put more time and money into it and try and learn something.

It was pretty spooky about a month ago she was in MY BARN, Now I lock it all the time, she was asking me where I got this, why I had that, what did that cost. That was tough, I mean how many times can I tell her a friend gave it to me or I am just holding it for a friend?

She agreed to stay out of MY BARN and I bring home the paycheck.

I did tell her that I will never forgive her if she ever mentions anything about cleaning out the barn or having a yard sale...I can only be pushed so far!

LOL

Mike, thats a good idea. I'll tell moma that i can sell it and make some mula when i'm done and that may cover me for awhile. I really think she'll chill out after I get it done. So far I've been using I'm doing it for my new grandson. That kinda working

I used some of those same tactics with fishing reels & rods. If I try that on tractors my better half will be on me like stink on %!^* With two sitting in the shed she is already CONCERNED! Bob
