I have a '47 8N and a '49 8N. The breather cup on the '47 is flat on the bottom and the one on the '49 looks like a bowl. I was at the local book store and noticed a picture of another '49 in one of the Ford tractor books, it too has a bowl shaped cup on the breather. On another page was a piture of a '47 and it was flat on the bottom. Was this rounded cup used for only 1 or 2 of years?

It depends on which air cleaner you have. There are 2 different cups mentioned in the parts manual. Each are referred to a different air cleaner assy.

From what I can make out, the round type cup was used on the air cleaners that had the "removable top". The flat bottom cups were used on air cleaners w/o the removable top.

Not sure if these cups are interchangable, cause I gots a 9N.

fwiw,
Tyman
