My '44 2n has not had the fluid changed in the rear part of the tractor in at least 15 year. The fluid is a bright gold color and never needs topping off. All the posts talking about changing the fluid and removing all the crud have me worried about what i may find when i go into clean it out! I want to know if the n tractors have a problem wearing out the ring and pinion gears? I have gotted this idea from reading the posts. Is it so? My tactor is in good shape and everything works great now. It has always been under a roof, so no water is in the trans. It has worked a long life because it has had 3 motor rebuilds. Thanks.

Patrick I have read posts about the pinion gears also. I don't think it is a problem unless you notice a problem while working tractor. I rememeber a post a few months ago and most people were not concerned about a small chip out of a pinion or ring gear (be sure to remove chip however). I am in the process of replacing my rear center housing. I was amazed at the crud that was in my 8N housing. In three years I had replaced fluid three times and even ran it for a half hour with diesel fuel to clean things out. It is stored inside, but for some reason I could not get water out. Maybe it was condensation. I will clean out transmission housing as best I can. I hope that will take care of water problem. Gordy MN

I found your nicely done background way before i started to read this board and did not see any harm. I have made a background that i do not like but i will have to deal with till i can go take better pics.

No harm, use it if you'd like. I'm honored. It's always good to ask before borrowing.

Thanks,
Tyman
