You all have been helpfull in keeping my 2N going over the last couple of years, but I need some information that is not tractor related.
Years ago I saw a single swivel wheel trailer about 3' wide X 5'long X 1 1/2' deep with a cover that attached to the rear bumper of an auto. It was mostly used for hauling the extra luggage that would not fit in the trunk of the car.

The reason that they stopped--I think--making them was the bumpers were attached different on the newer autos. I believe one could redesign one to work on a receiver type hitch.

Does anyone have any pictures, drawings etc of this trailer so that a person could get a good idea of how to build one?

PS: I had a good reponse on the plans I have for the 1901 Packard kid car that I had answered a query about on this form about a year or so ago. If someone wants a set of plans, e-mail me and I will send them back by e-mail.

Thanks in advance for your time and effort.

I don't understand what the advantage of the trailer would be. You can buy or build a platform rack that fits in the reciever hitch that will hold extra luggage of oversized items. Seems like the wheel would complicate things.

I saw a picture of a double socket receiver at a hitch place near my house. This wasn't a U-Haul type place but a place that built trailers and sells snow plows and installs hitches. I asked what it was and was told that a lady asked them if they could build a hitch for two balls and gave them the distance between the two. They asked her if she could please bring the trailor so they could check the distance. She told them not to worry and it is the right distance. After she picked up the car she came back later to show them but I never saw the trailor. She said it was very easy to back up!

Have you tried doing a search on the web? I would almost think with a swivel wheel design like that it wouldn't have any springs? That could get a little complicated.

Well if you build one I will know of two of them.

Good luck,
Ken

Both of you fella hit the nail on the head about describing the trailer that I am looking for. The easy backup is the main thing because a small two wheel trailer would be hard to see to backup, plus the wife wouldn't have any trouble to move it around.

Yes I have searched the net and all of the trailer places around Ocala, Florida. Out of about a dozen places, two knew what I was talking about and half of them have never seen one, only heard about them.

Most of the fella I talked to were youger than I am, and I am just 61. I came to this board that has EXPERANCE AND KNOWLEDGE on old stuff like this and would come up with some answers.!!!!! !!!

Now to the drawing board---any ideas out there would help---especilly on the wheel/axle design.

Put your ideas on paper and scan them and send them to me at kf4qid@prodigy.net or let me know by e-mail and I will send you my snail mail address so you can send them that way.

THANK YOU A HALF-A-MILLION, I WOULD THANK YOU A MILLION, BUT I DIN'T HAVE THAT MUCH!!!!! !!!

The one wheel trailer we had when I was young attached to two places on the bumper about 3 feet apart. There was no side to side movement of the trailer - it was always directly behind the car and the front of the trailer was always parallel to the bumper. The hitch at the bumper did allow the back of the trailer to move up and down in relation to the bumper - just not side to side. I think if you look at the front of a leaf spring on a car or truck you'll see the spring attachment is very similar to how that hitch worked. To adapt a receiver hitch all you'd really need is a T shape with the top of the T being 3 - 4 feet and the leg about 9 inches and weld a couple shakle points to the long part of the T.

Of course I described it and I understand myself perfectly - I hope you can figure out what I'm talking about.
