Hello Oslo, I hope I'm not going to insult your intelligence; however many folks don't understand the solenoid. The small wire attached to the solenoid when activated by the starter button energizes the internal winding in the solenoid causing a mechanical connection of the two large posts on the solenoid's sides. The "click" that you hear is this electro-magnetic "switch" connecting these two posts. These two posts, one from the battery and the other to the starter(when the solenoid is energized) complete the circuit from the battery to the starter motor. Some times, even though the solenoid "clicks" the internal contacts inside the solenoid are burned and the high-amperage circuit to the starter cannot be completed. By shorting "around" the solenoid (with two screwdrivers)on the two LARGE posts - the starter should operate. If it does - the solenoid is bad. If the started doesn't operate - then the starter motor is bad. Pretty simple. Make certain the tractor is out of gear when shorting the large posts. Hope this is helpful. L and C Ranch Larry
