Been thinking again...

I would like to bid on a tractor item on Ebay. In the real cost affordable world, the item I have been "keeping my out for" has escalated so high that it is near the point of someone being close to ridiculous (IMHO).

So, here's a question? Is one origianl unsealed beam front light for a 9N worth 250.00-300.00? or more? In my limited cost affordable world..... oh man, I'm out of my league.

What are your thoughts, and what is reasonable in you IMHO's?

First rule of economics: it's only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it. E-Bay makes money by selling for as much as possible via the frenzy of an auction. Ford tractor parts are getting out of hand, no question, but if someone is willing to pay that price, I guess I wish I was the seller. On lights, I bought a repro tail light and fender brackets from Dennis Carpenter, very reasonable prices, excellent quality, perfect match, no rust to clean! When aftermarket suppliers see what these old parts sell for, they start making reproductions, and I'd rather get a new unit and save my money. My 3 cents.

It worth what someone is willing to pay for it. It begs the question,do you really want it more that I do ?. I've seen an original, NOS '39 HD Springer front fender go for $1800.!!

You see the very thing at farm and estate auctions, sometimes people get in the frenzy of I am going to win this no matter what.. I have seen it as I am sure you have ,someone bidding on an item that you can buy everyday at one low price but they bid it up to 3,4, 6, 10 .... times its real value,,, is it worth the price??? not to me but maybe to someone else ..... I know the way I bid is I figure out what its worth to me and then stop when it reaches that point,,,sometimes even though I lose I win,, like i think it was dell said,,,,, the seller is making out like a bandit on this one though I see a set of fenders and a light on for less than that1690057778 dont know if the same light but ya getting more for your money,,,, just my 2 cents,,, which I usually end up with change from.

If you had something to sell, and were asking for best offers, would you stop taking offers when they reached what you thought it was worth? I would get all I could, and be happy to get it.
The answer to question depends entirely on whether you are the buyer or the seller.

Tom..... .Auctions...where a willing buyer and a willing seller agree on value as urged on by the chant of the auctioneer. I've saved a lot of money by being 2nd highest bidder at the auction. ..... ...Dell, who agrees that $300 for any 9N un-sealed beam headlight is not worth it. What is it worth to you?

Hey Tom. Well, they are obviously worth it to the guy who bid it, so for that person I guess it is reasonable.

Some of the old Ford shop tools are getting to be just as bad (for me). Just have to find them elsewhere, I guess.

Take care..... Ed

If you're interested in a set to restore, I have the original set off my '48 8N They're a little rough, one of the "wings" is broken in two, but the buckets have very little rust inside. Email me and I'm sure we can work something out.
