Got my new proofmeter and cable today. It fit the hole good looked good. The cable was good and heavy, looked to be ok stuff, however when i took the old nut off the back of the governor to hook in the cable, there is nothing for the cable to slide into like a slot.Up in the place for the cable should go its solid.Im thinking that someone has used a shaft that did not have a proofmeter.Would that fit and are they interchangable. How do I fix it..Thanks...R.M. I have one of those governors like yours on the shelf in my workshop, nothing to drive the proof meter cable. Mine came from a Ford Tractor Dealers stock in about 1982 and I bought it to have a spare. When I opened it up it has weights rather than the usual Novi ball configuration. Being different I never used it. Yours may or may not be like that one but the problem is the same. I would suggest you check with a speedometer shop to see if they have a collar insert for it, You likely will have to remove it and take it to them to find the right part. Don B may also be helpful on this one, might give him a call.
