What do I need to do if my oil pressure drops to 10 or so after warm-up? I just got my 2N and each time I use it (twice so far) I check the fluid sticks and they look clean and full, but I noticed my oil pressure drops to about 10 after the engine gets warm. I read the post from Rick in Kansas and the follow-ups and it sounds like 10 is too low. Is this a problem I should look into right away? Thanks.

Hi Ron,
M y 52 8N had 5-10 PSI oil presure when it warmed up. It ran like that for 20 years. I am restoring the tractor and after tearing the engine down I think I found out why. The rod bearings were really loose and the oil was leaking out past the bearings. At least that is what I think caused the low pressure.

10 is still ok... As long as the pressure is sufficient to squirt the oil into the cylinders for lubrication, When the hole in the rod boss lines up with the hole in the crank you get a squirt of oil into the liner, you are still ok...

The rule of thumb that I've used for cars is 10 lbs. per thousand RPM. Does that apply to these tractor engines, also?

Thanks..... ..... .Ed
