I am consistantly getting flats from hedge thorns in one of my front tires of my 8N. I have had the the tire patched and a new tube put in. Is there any good options other than filling with foam at about $100 per tire? Is filling with foam a good idea?

I think Miller Tire used to sell tire liners. They are extra strength pieces of rubber that fit between the tube and the tire. They do a pretty good job of protecting the tube. Also, you can buy some stuff called "Green Slime" from some trucking supply companies. You put it in the tube and it becomes self-healing if you hit a nail.

Tractor Supply had 1 gallon jugs of tire sealant for less that $20(?). if there isn't a Tractor Supply near you, i would think that any tractor dealership or farm supply would have it. using tire sealent is the way to go in my opinion.

The seler from TSC is Berryman I believe. $16.95 a Gal. and it seems to work well with Mesquite thorns. If that won't work Eastman sells a sealer that is supposed to plug holes up to 1/2". High dollar though.

Where I work we had our forklift and skid loader tires filled with foam and we havent had any problems. There are a lot of nails from pallets in our yard and the foam has eliminated down time from flats. I havent had any experience with foam in tractor tires but I would expect similar results.

I had just the same problem, only with hedge apple trees (bad little suckers) fought with tubes patches, this was every two weeks or so then i went to walmart and bought some tire sealant for riding mowers and no more problems, corse if i ever do have another flat i'll probly have to throw the tube away (this was a year and a half ago no problems yet) Happy Trails.
