1950 8N with a 5 foot rotary mower. I wanted to hang a stabilizer bar(s) on it but am having difficulty doing so. I bought two "standard" cat 1 bars but they don't fit. The holes in the bars are just over 31.5" center to center and are too long. Measuring from my under axle pins to the lift arm holes is right about 31". I have mounted a Saf-T-Cab ROPS (gives me some amount of peace of mind with the wife and kids [pretty much grown up] driving) with the provided bottom plates for the pins. Is it the plates that made the difference in length or are 8N's just not as "standard" as the fella who sold me the bars thinks?

Thoughts - opinions....

Thanks in advance. Rick

Make sure that the pins on the under axle bracket line up with the bolts for the three point, both the vertical and the horizontal. I got brackets from TSC, and I think the bottom, front hole lined up. I'm cheap so I bought one adjustable and one flat bar. It seems to work well, and as JK said you can get all the slack out. Do you have the brackets mounted right ( the vertical part of the angle iron to the inside and the pins pointing in)?

The plates are mounted as you describe. Vertical and pins both inward. That was my first thought so I double checked it against whatever pictures and other tractors I could locate quickly.

I wasn't aware of any adjustable types being available. I'm looking at that route now as that would be the quickest and easiest.

Thanks to all for the help.

Rick--

Take those flat bars back, spend a few bucks more and buy the round adjustable bars. They're the stuff! You can take out all the slop and keep that 'hog right where you want it.

Good luck,

The under-the-fender brackets from the stabilizer kit I bought from CT have four holes for the under-the-axle pins so you have some adjustment. I would guess the cat 1 dimensions are a standard.
