Tonight while doing some bladeing my 2N started to growl in the rearend while the lift is up. I have very recently changed rearend houseings. The tractor has been doing a little work for a couple weekends & was sounding great till this evening. Any theories?

Hard to say without hearing it. Is it related to ground speed or engine rpm? Does it occur in forward and reverse? Is it worse in different gears? I think you may be barking up the wrong tree because you automatically relate changing the rear end housing with the development of the symptom. Since the symptom didn't appear for a couple of weeks, I think there is some other problem.

If it growls only when the lift is up, I'd be more inclined to investigate the hydraulic system adjustment. The pump can growl when there is stress on the system, caused most likely by a sticking valve or misadjustment.
