Anyone have a simple way to time a 9n? Please be basic as I cannot figure out how to rotate this front mount distributor. Must be an easy way

You can't set timeing that way, you have to remove it to set timeing, it's done useing a straight edge , it's kind'a hard to talk you through it. Get yourself a I.T. manual, this will answer all you questions.

later,dave

Sounds like a classic example of the ignition getting overheated. Lots of warnings in past messages about the ignition switch itself being the problem. In other applications old coils are known to do this as well. Next time it does this, check for spark.

Vapor lock is where the gasoline in the fuel line gets so hot it boils. Removing the gas cap will not help this phenomina. Removing the gas cap is a bandaid fix for lack of tank venting. Lack of tank venting causes a vacuum to build up in the gas tank as fuel is consumed, eventually preventing gasoline from flowing out the tank. Vapor lock is not a noted problem with the N tractor.

I was just looking at our sponsor's "store" page. The video that I told you about is listed there: J & D Productions.

The Ferguson Systems Service Manual for my 9N says to move the breaker adjustment plate on distributor towards the coil (upward) to retard the spark and away from coil (downward) to advance spark. To move this adjustment plate you must loosen a large screw on the left side of distributor. The only problem I have is knowing how far to move it as can find no reference as to what setting should be.
