I'm wondering if one of you gents could help me with a quick question. Which way does the engine rotate on the N's and which post on the voltage reg. gets the battery. I pulled the generator and voltage regulator from my 2N. took them on the three hour trip home to check them out, it wasn't charging. Now I want to try them on the bench but like a dummy I didn't get all the info I need. I figure I could wire them up and turn the generator with a small motor and make sure it is working before I make the trip back up to my place and reinstall them.

I used Paint remover to remove the many layers of paint on all parts and only sandblasted rusty parts away from the main chassis since I was concerned about sand getting in everything. I started out doing a "lite" restoration But because of my personality was not able to draw the line at "lite". As a result I started removing paint without disassembling everything. Once I decided that nothing less than perfect would do, I took everything apart. I would recommend making that decision first. It will make the process much smoother. I decided on the 51 8N because the N-Series is such a Classic. I found this tractor in the Orlando area and felt I was lucky it was in such good shape dispite the $4,500. price tag which included a functional but not pretty trailer.

I thnk you're right. The Radiator I have is the second one you refer to, and I'm thinking it's orginal. It has a large pentagon shaped tank on top, with mounting holes underneath and side mounting holes too. I'm hoping someone out there has one kicking around that is useable and serviceable. thanks for the post reply! 9N'er

Thanks for the info. I will test the system with a battery in place so I do not distroy the generator. I do have the generator with the adjustment screw and I do have the voltage cutout. Thanks again. RF
