Just bought a 1951 8N and it just started leaking oil from the timing port. Does all this need is a good tightening?

Altink..... .....if you mean that big screw held teardrop covered hole on the rightside of the flywheel housing? It shouldn't be leaking any oil. It would be getting oiled from the crankshaft rear mainbearing seal, and centrifically spun up the backside of flywheel. Which is definately gonna crud up your clutch too.

Sometimes you can gett by just replacing the lower half of rope mainseal by not cutting it flush with oil pan. Otherwise, unless you're real clever, yer gonna haffta drop the entire crankshaft. Not fun, but not too bad eather. Naturally, replace all oilpan gaskets too.

Howsomever, if you mean that big headed bolt up front on your engine timing gear cover, thats the oil pressure relief valve. If'n its leaking there, yer gonna be pumping 6 qts of oil at 35-40 psi past the pressure relief valve. Tighen it and you should be ok, might oil yer fanbelt, checkitt..... ....Dell

Thanks for getting back to me on this. Sounds like I need to get busy. Thanks again, Altink.
