Any tricks for saving a clutch disc that is oil soaked? It still thick enough to use but slips bad.

Per chance you have the disk out of the tractor wipe it off with lacquer thinner. While the disk is still wet set it alight and burn it. The fire
brings the oil to the surface. Repeat the process 10 or 15 times. 5 times is about all I do on motorcycle clutch disks but it is too much work getting the plate out to take chances. If it were mine I would put in a new or rebuilt clutch and fix the source of oil. Good luck!

I agree with Dell-do it right and you only have to do it once.

Hi Rusty,Here is what I suggested to a friend who was having the same problem on an 8N.Make sure you are in a well ventilated area, preferably outside, disconnect battery,do not smoke or attempt to start the tractor for a least 24 hrs. after you do this for safety sake. The timing hole on top of your transmission, slide cover back so it exposes the flywheel(if it is a 9N or 2N you can drill a hole in about the same place and make a cover out of scrap metal to be able to access the flywheel.),take a can of brake cleaner and begin spraying it in and all round best you can,use the extention to reach in further.Check the weep hole on the bottom of the transmission, make sure the excess oil and cleaner exit here and doesn't build up inside. It has worked great so far.The only other option is spliting and repairing the oil leak.HTH,Jay 2NSC

The old carbon tet fire extinguishers also worked great for that. And you did not have to worry about fire.

Make sure you use a flashlight to look inside the hole! :^) Jay 2NSC
