Can I get copper core spark plug wires at the local auto parts store, or do I have to get them from an on-line source? I bought a new set of 9N plug wires from FNH about a month ago, anticipating my need when I got my wiring right, and yesterday I opened up the bag and found carbon core spark plug wires in there!

My local Carquest had them in stock. Ask for industrial plug wire set. Worth your time to solder the crimp on ends and cut them to length. If I recall they were a couple of bucks cheaper than FNH. [I live a ways from town so I call around before I head out].

Your mileage may vary

Ron..... ..... 10 yrs ago, when I replaced my now eazier starting '52 8N's hard, dried out, stiff, cracked sparkie wires, I got a custom coppercore hotrod set for Pontiac V-8 because they had right-angle sparkie boots. The high quality insulation is still flexable. And I have a spare set of sparkie wires.

I custom cut to length and soldered with rosin core radio solder the brass squeeze-on terminal that goes into the distributor nipple. (don't forget to "clean" the solder rosin after soldering, I used "Electra-Clean" spray and an old toothbrush)..... ....Dell

I believe an alternate rosin cleaner is alcohol. Just let the ends soak in a container to remove the rosin.

When I got my NASA Soldering Certification, we used something we called "Vapor-Sol". Probably EPA outlawed now. It was a multi-part vaporizing solvent. Alcohol was NOT an approved solvent.

Yes, alcohol is a rosin solvent.

My point being, yer dealing with really high voltage and burned rosin (a natural by-product of soldering) can cause missing sparkies.

Most people are more confortable with a commercial electrical non-residue spray cleaner and not having to determine which of 3-4 different types of alcohol to use..... .....Dell

You should be able to buy the wire and connectors at most auto supply stores.
Auto supply stores that cater to racing fans or hot rod shops will have copper wires and high quality connectors to make up the wires.
