I bought a '49 8N yesterday. She's a little tired, with no electrical system, but with a Sherman Combo tranny and what I think is a Dearborn loader. How can I identify the loader? Are there data plates? The loader is in good shape, save a leak in one cylinder and some leaky hoses. Any ideas as to value?

As always, thanks for the help!

Patrick

Hey Patrick. I have both the owner's manual and the dealer parts book for the 19-22. I can email scans of the pages if you think the info will be helpful to you.

Here's what the 19-22 looks like:

Here's the specs on it from a 1950 ad:

Email me if you would like the other info that I have on it.

Best of luck with it..... Ed

Which Dearborn did it have on it? Inquiring minds want to know!
All fixed up a good Dearborn loader might go for $300-$500.

I'm pretty sure it is a 19-22 upgraded to heavy duty. The loader is in great shape overall, just needs one main cylinder overhauled...it sprayed me all the way home.... kinda like a happy stray :-) The front bucket was upgraded to hydraulic with a nice cylinder. I'll post a picture in a couple of days.

The tractor, on the other hand, is a mess, literally NO CHARGING system (read no wires to the generator, no resistor block, no VR, original starter override, etc...) ....running, poorly, on a 12 volt with pig tails coming through a hole in the hood so the former owner could put the battery on charge..... The former owner added some kinda resistor...I drove it home and put it in the barn and am not going to run it again until I fix the electrics. Poor carb is sucking air straight...yea...no air cleaner....hmmmm....I better have gotten a good deal....

The tractor does have a Sherman Hi-Lo....really neat and I can't wait to get the tractor running good so I can really test it out.

I'm going to drive the boys on this board crazy as I muster all of my limited electical ability to redo the wiring on this tractor ;-)

O yea, told the wife I brought home a stray....wait till she finds out that it ain't a dog.....
