Does anyone know how the faceplates on original N series ammeter's were applied? Silkscreen? I took a broken original apart, cleaned it up and now it works, but the face is kinda rough. I could probably touch it up with a fine paintbrush, but I'm not sure how well I can match the now faded flat black paint. Also, suggestions for sources to replace the now very hard rubber gasket? I know you can buy a new ammeter for $cheap, but this probably goes in the category of doing something, just 'cause you can.

Suggestions most appreciated!

If it is an original ammeter (loop type) it is not something you can get cheap and is very worthy of being repaired.

imho

Thanks guys, I'll let you know how I make out. I bought a "new" dash for a 49 8n and the boneyard didn't bother to take off the back support, an original VR, throttle linkage, ammeter and oil pressure guage. The VR, with the original autolite tag, cleaned up pretty well and looks like it'll probably still work...we'll see.

Thanks and Happy Holidays...

The originals were silk-screened. You could take a picture of a good one, have a screen shop make you a new face on a thin aluminum blank. Or find a scrap meter with a good face and swap it out.
