Trailer hitch?

yesterday while jacking up the rear of my newly purchased 1952 8N, i noticed what looked like some kind of a trailer hitch mounted directly under the pto shaft.it looks like it is original equipment. is it? thanks for your input.

That's where your swinging drawbar hooks up to.It was available from the original dealer. I have a Dearborn unit on mine. Do you have the drawbar for it or just the mount?...DaBrow

thanks dabrow. i just have the mount. since i posted this message, i have browsed through some photos of redbellys and i saw one with a draw bar on it. did'nt know what to call it though till now. i will have to get or make one as it would come in handy for my needs. thanks again

There are two different kinds of swinging drawbars commonly used, so be careful to get the right one for your mount. Here's a picture of the original Dearborn type, which uses the 3-pt., 11-hole drawbar as a stabilizer:

Here's a picture of the later type, which uses a bracket around the PTO to stabilize and control swing:

They are not interchangeable.
