ok here we go again. tractor is split at trans & motor,clutch had lots of oil on it,trans seal leaking. alright now for next problem the main drive shaft is way too loose (wiggles around,it can hit throw out bearing housing) this tractor always had a growl in trans 1-WHAT TO DO?
2-just replace those two bearings
3-then lathe some metal off of front bearing retainer to tighten up play on shaft??
3-then hope for best that other 3 bearings dont go bad in trans !!!
4-replace all bearings in trans NOW while tractors is this far apart?
5-correct way to preload bearings is at back of trans housing (remove it where shims are)
6-need help guys what to do?

at the very least 2 along with a new trans front seal.

I don't think it matters that your tranny shaft wiggles around. It is held in place by the pilot bearing in the flywheel when the clutch is pushed in, and held by the clutch splines when clutch engaged. Once the cases are back together it can't hit the throw out bearing. Don't grind anything.

Hardest part about a tranny rebuild is getting up enuff gutts to do it!

I&T FO-4 has pretty good instructions..... ..Dell
