My '51 8N runs great! It seems very smooth & quiet. There is no lack of power when bush hogging tall grass. However, when I lower the throttle to 900 rpm's or lower it will idle very irratically and the proofmeter needle jumps up & down for two or three minutes before calming down. Do I need hotter plugs?

Arthur..... .....surgeing with a governor controlled engine is usually a sign of dirty and clogged idle jets. The N-Carb is a 2 jet design. Idle speed jet is effective up to about 1000 rpms. The main jet then takes over up to 2200 max rpms. While your governor balls could be flat-spotted I doubt it..... .....Dell

Have you properly adjusted the idle jet screw?
