I can't get the head off of my 8n. Yes, I removed all of the nuts, and I've hit her a few times, but I am afraid of breaking the casting. The block/head isn't rusted....just stuck.

I keep thinking I'm a missin somethun...

Suggestions?

Put the spark plugs back in it and crank the starter, the compression will pop the head off.

But be sure and replace 4 or so bolts to within a millimeter of the head before you do...

Hmmmmm ....I think the cold has been affecting my brain...another great suggestion....and I'm glad you confirmed the need to put a nut or two on. I thought about cranking her last last night and had visions of blowing the head through my garage roof.

Regards...

Patrick, I can't remember who posted this initially but I copied this from the archives for ya....

You put some of a piece of 1/4" soft cotton rope down the spark plug hole. Then you turn the crank (by hand) until the cylinder comes up and mashes the rope up against the head. The idea is this will either a) prevent the crank from turning so you can unthread whatever is on it or b) pop the head off (if the head bolts are removed). Oviously you don't want to use the starter to turn the motor over (unless you're going for option b)
