Hey all - New here and really enjoying reading the forum.

We just got a '46 2N from my father in-law and will be fixing it up. Love his tractor!!

Question on color. I searched the forum and found the original color is gray. Or as some said GRAY and GRAY only:) But, I sanded through all the colors on this tractor and the only gray I found is the top coat. From top to bottom: Hood fenders - light gray, light blue, darker blue, then cream white. The center section/motor red, light blue then a dark (new Ford) blue. So, if I go by the first colors put on this tractor it would have the fenders/hood a cream white with the motor unit a Ford blue. Like I say, the only gray found is the top color on the hood/fenders and it is a paint brush job. I will do some more looking. Ideas????

My wife really is attached to this tractor, so my Datsun Roadster and 64 Chevy truck projects are on hold until the 2N is pretty again. It promises to be a fun project and looking forward to it!!

Phil

NAPA's Martin Senour acrylic enamel #6019 Ford Gray is correct by most all accounts, and by:

I just got back from the Ford NH place and they have grey paint in stock at $15.85 can, about a litre. That's in Canadian dollars. Got a new fuel shut off with the bowl about $28-. BC Mike C

Thanks for the comments! I bet I will find gray some place on this tractor. I need to pull the exhaust/intake manifold and have it welded (not a good solution) or buy another, then I will find gray:)

Thinking a Ford blue motor unit and a real light gray hood/fenders. That way I have gray (I know, too light) and be disticive from the 8N.

Just a guess - because you're likely to warp the manifold, resulting in a lousy seal and much cussing.

Nope, its because the pores in the cast iron absorbs oil from the exhaust, and you just can't get it clean enough to make a good weld.

The very original color is gray. Throughout the years it sounds like it has been repainted a few times. I would suspect that somewhere on the tractor chassis is the original gray under all the other colors. Someone may have done some serious paint removal at one time but I betcha that if you look hard enough you will find it.

Make sure you paint it whatever color you like-it's yours.

If it is a 2/9n, then it will be a dark battleship grey all over.

The 8N's had the lighter cream grey, and vermillion red bodies ( close match ).

TSC stores, and don @ just 8n's carry this paint, as do many venders. Probably ford/new holland even has it.. for an arm and a leg.
