bought a hand-held grinder this week. Found a very good original 9N radiator in a barn leaning against the wall (no dings, dents, rust...nothing!) got it for 20.00. Picked up a PTO cover and mailed a bunch of other non 9N parts back to the fella, but it was a good try. Located a toolbox, it was shipped yesterday. Finished putting base coats on all pieces but chassis. Still trying to find the time to get to it. And, my three year-old and I drove 3 hours one-way today close to the Maine coast to look at a "9N" for 900.00. It had a rear end of a 2N, serial number of a late 1948 8N engine, bent hydraulic arms, flat tires, rusted through rims, needed 4 jump starts, had a 8N dash, but no front grill, no exhaust, and it sat there, missing the lift control lever, not knowing it would work or not. PTO turned. When she fired up...boy did the 8N engine sound good. NO smoke, 40PSI oil pressure when warm and idling..but no load. He said 850.00 I said, well, if you can't sell it in a couple weeks time, give me a call and I'll trailer it back home. And the wife thinks I went to look at a rock rake. 3 Year old and I stopped for ice cream, ate lunch in the back of the pick-up truck in a small town and he waved to people as they walked into the corner store. Bought him a matchbox tractor with disc harrow...and he asked if it was a 9N, and saved my marriage for another week. The adventure continues; but the best was sittng in the bed of the truck with my boy dangling our legs and eating sandwiches and ice cream bars on a summer afternoon. Now, that was worth it! A nice day to be out and about dreaming of tractors and laughing with the boy. 9N-er
