I have completely rebuilt the engine on my 8n , while I had it apart I also had the block tanked by a reputable machine shop . It came back looking clean and spotless . Since then I have run it qiute a bit and everything works fine , no complaints . I have changed the oil several times since the rebuild and have noticed that the oil is black . I thought it might be that way for the first couple of oil changes but it has been this way now for about 5 oil changes or about 100 hours of operation . Not sure if this is the way it should look or if this is an indication of something else . Any help greatly appreciated...Thanks Alan

I agree with both Clause and Michael, but I don't see where a fresh engine should have black oil. Maybe a little darker than fresh oil, but I tend to go along with Clause. Something ain't right somewhere if the oil is black so soon. If the rings are not seated, you would get some blow-by, and I can see this as ok for a while, but it still should not be black. Just my opinion. Good luck!!

When its time to change oil, if it isn't dirty, somethings wrong. Good oil is formulated to suspend dirt and contaminates so it goes out with your oil change. If the oil is clean, the dirty stuff is still in the engine.----- Michael Az

Take a compression test. This is indicative of excessive blow-by. Happy Motoring
